I have had good experience with the Western Digital drives. Western Digital may or may not be the best available drives, but for my use they are good enought. I have had a few fail, but I have had other brands fail as well. That is what backing up is all about. Recently I needed a couple of drives and Western Digital was available at a reasonable cost on ebay. Intallation is easy and simple.
This is one of the most mass-produced hard drives - ever. I would rate this model as one of the more reliable, of it's class. They seem to last forever, many in constant service for, near to, 10 years. By modern standards they cannot be considered fast but rather their best feature must be longevity. They, are prone to bearing-motor "whine", but still "keep on ticking". ; }
Installed in my daughters older PIII 1Ghz destop as a secondary drive. When I booted, XP recognized it. I formatted the drive and then dragged and dropped my documents folder from C: drive to the new Western Digital drive and now there is so much room for I-Tunes and I-Pod Sync that it now runs much faster. The drive is very quiet and no ticking when files are being transfered back and forth. Would recommend for additional storage for anyone with an older desktop running XP.
Replacing the hard drive was fairly simple. Four screws and two connectors. This drive is completely clean, so you must have your operating system disk and key to load. You may need video drivers, etc, to get up and running. Load your programs and you're on your way. I'm not as expert but I haven't been overwhelmed so far. I can keep my hardware and not have the expense of a new computer.
The item has 40gb and 7200 speed which makes this hardrive very fast. Hardrive when is cold can be little bit louder than normal but for 7200 speed this is kind a normal. The item is recommended for older pcs or for office/home pcs where you want use only for using the pcs where you store not much data.
