Awesome speakers
I use these as my surround speakers in my all Cerwin Vega movie room. They really bring out the life of the action with Crystal clear sound, no echo or reverb. They would also make a great set of speakers for just a bookshelf system, they get quite loud and have pretty good bass for their size, a lot more than I expected. I highly recommend them for either application and you won't be disappointed.I use these as my surround speakers in my all Cerwin Vega movie room. Great Home Theater Sound/Small Size
I have a dedicated TV room with a good Home Theater setup. I have struggled for several years trying different speaker brands and have not been happy with the sound, until now. I had tried Klipsch, MIRAGE, Polk Audio, and even low-end Martin-Logans and several others I'm on a tight budget and was about to settle for less than I thought the sound should have been when I noticed the Cerwin Vega center speaker at a good price so I bought one to try. I was blown away by the build quality and the sound of the center speaker, so I started looking at the alternatives for my main front speakers (left and right). Since my budget is tight I decided to try the SLM-5 speakers out and wired them up, thinking if I like them I will buy the towers speakers to replace them. Replacement never happened. ... I have a dedicated TV room with a good Home Theater setup. I have struggled for several years trying different speaker brands and have not been happy with the sound, until now. Beautiful sound!
I run these speakers with an Onkyo TX-SR876, and at reference level they exhibit no signs of stress or compression whatsoever (it is however, too damn loud). These speakers are not as efficient as other Cerwin Vega designs, but have an impressive mid base and clear, sweet highs. They are black boxes with a somewhat "pro-audio" look (though I quite like them). Build quality is decent, with a substantial weight. They appear to be 3/4 inch medium density particle board, which give a good resistance to resonance. Cerwin Vega specifies that there is internal bracing, though I have not opened them. Out of the box, these speakers sounded slightly dull, really tight, and needed to be turned up. Highs were clear though very slightly sharp, and mid bass and lower bass extension was slightly ... After breaking in, the mid bass came alive, and the extension is astonishing! Tweeters became sweet as honey. I am absolutely impressed with the quality of sound these speaker provide, they punch way above their weight. There is no need for a subwoofer with these. Setting up these speakers is important, but not particularly difficult. Mine are set up about ten feet in front of my listening position, with seven feet between them, slightly toed in. They absolutely disappear, and the soundstage they produce is astonishing! Listening to Brothers in Arms (Dire Straights 2000 remaster) is an absolute pleasure! I can't remember the last time a pair of speakers shocked me as much as these have. I run four XLS-6 speakers with and XLS-6C, and a Sound Dynamics Thunder 3000 subwoofer for my secondary home theater. Fantastic! In my opinion, you cannot beat the quality of the sound for twice the price! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Excellent sound for a very reasonable price!
I’m still in the process of breaking in my new CV XLS-6 bookshelf speakers....the quality of sound they deliver is very pleasant and very well balanced (highs and lows.) The sound dispersion is excellent. When compared to other speakers I’ve owned over the years, their sound is very detailed and that’s an important feature if you care about hearing ALL instruments being played on a well recorded CD or coming from a good streaming station.
