    Perfect upgrade from mechanical machine and for getting started in embroidery!

    I bought this because I needed more stitches than my very old machine had and I wanted basic embroidery capability. So far, I have found it to be exactly what I need. The variety of stitches available and the features (auto needle threading, auto thread cutting, etc) are such a convenience. The screen is easy to read and the machine is user-friendly. I took the time to go through the instruction manual and I keep it handy for answering questions on the numerous features. The embroidery capability is perfect for small projects and everything I have tried has stitched out beautifully. Much of the success is due to the excellent advice I have found on various sites concerning the best thread and stabilizers for different fabrics.     Like so many other reviewers, I too have fallen in love with my new sewing machine. Twenty years have passed since I last used a sewing machine and this computerized machine has turned sewing into a very fun and creative outlet Suddenly I've discovered a great new hobby to engage in durning my retirement. There are several missing features which I hope the designers incorporate in future models. The color, strength and focus of the light fixture is not adequate for this form of detailed work. In addition, there ought to be a variety of portable guidelines that are easily placed and removed on the needle plate to assure that a straight line is being maintained when using complex stitch patterns which make visual line sighting very difficult while sewing.     THE MACHINE IS EXCELLENT,VALUE,WITH SOME WONDERFUL FEATURES

    I HAVE ONLY JUST GOT MY MACHINE,AND I LOVE IT.!!!!!! I THINK IT IS GREAT VALUE FOR MONEY AND HAS SOME EXCELLENT FEATURES LIKE THE AUTOMATIC NEEDLE TREADER AND AUTOMATIC TREAD CUTTER. THE ONLY DOWNSIDE I FOUND WAS THE INSTRUTION CD THAT CAME WITH IT DIDN'T WORK AND I HAD TO FIND MY OWN WAY ROUND THE MACHINE. THIS IS MY FIRST EXPERIENCE WITH A USING A BROTHER MACHINE AND MY FIRST TIME I HAVE TRIED USING AN EMBROIDERY MACHINE. I THINK IT POSSIBLY HELPED THAT I HAD SEVERAL YEARS EXPERIENCE,USIING OTHER MODELS OF SEWING MACHINES AS I MANAGED TO FIND MY WAY AROUND THIS MACHINE FAIRLY QUICKLY AMD EASILY.     Brother SE400 Computerized Sewing Machine

    I really love this machine. It embroiders and sews who wouldn't want that. I love the sewing part. The machine sews like a dream. The machine also cuts your thread for you saving you a lot of time and it has many stitch functions many of which you will never use. I recommend watching a video on You Tube to get you started off the right foot or you could get a sewing class but they charge you, a lot. The embroidery part is good and easy to use but a 4x4 area just isn't enough most designs are 3 inches or smaller. If you want it for the embroidery part just get a bigger machine you'll be more satisfied with the variety on a bigger machine. I wanted to embroider some pillows for my couch and the designs were just to small. I like the embroidery it just isn't big enough. ...

    Don't lay that down or I will monogram it!!

    Not quite sure that I wanted to committ to a big purchase / storage / buying additional supplies / etc. I was on the fence about this machine. Finally I was tired of paying someone else at least $10 everytime I wanted something embroidered so I broke down and made this purchase! I am so glad that I chose this machine!Being a refurbished machine, I was a bit hesitant but the savings were well worth the it! So far it has been great! Luckily I have a friend that came over and gave me a quick "lesson" on using te machine, but I was able to play around with the quick start guide as soon as I received my machine. Unfortunately, my frien is the only person that I know that is less computer saav than me so she was NO HELP with the downloading of new fonts / designs. I have yet to figure that out ...
