  • The heaviest offering by prog./metal masters

This is a great cd but at times its a bit heavy for no particular reason for my tastes. I own all of Dream Theater's material and this is one of the releases that I play the least. Still with that said this is far better than almost anything else coming out of the modern prog. rock/metal crowd over the past decade (except for Spock's Beard & Mars Volta), Mike Portnoy is a master on the drum kit, and the percussion is very powerful on this for sure. If your just looking into Dream Theater I'd recommend you pass this one up for now and look into either the new release "Black Clouds & Silver Linings" or "Octovarium" for an even better taste of the band. If your more familiar with the band or if you enjoy a heavier sound then maybe you will enjoy ...

  • A very Stimulating expierience

Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence was somewhat of a Transitional Album for Dream Theater. it featured many various sound effects and voice overs. There are Six tracks on this 2 CD set featuring the 42 Minute title track. This Album is just shy of being a Masterpiece, And i would strongly reccomend buying this Album. Highlights on this Album include The Glass Prison. Which is a Total Triumph for the Band, And it's one of the Greatest pieces the Band has ever written. Blind Faith, Which is another exciting uptempo Rocker. And the Groovin About to Crash Reprise.

  • Epitome of Progressive music

DT is my favourite band so I'll try to write this without bias (if thart's possible!). The title track on this album is also the albums title. Fact, it takes up the entire second disc. DT is known for lengthy and complicated overtures that leaves many of the best in the music world scratching their heads as to how they composed and played the composition. What I like about this particular release is the first disc offers "relatively" normal songs if not a bit long in running time for listeners who are buying prog. music or DT for the first time. The songs that standout are, "Misunderstood", "The Glass Prison", and "Disappear". They are rather hard at times but juxtapose the quiter more reflective moments all that much fiercer (espacially ...

  • One of the best albums of the decade

This is the second best album by Dream Theater and I haven't got around to the first cd !! Close behind Scenes from a Memory this album is dramatic, disturbing, beautiful and emotional. Guitar work by Petrucci is very melodic and thankfully stays pretty reserved compared to some other Dream Theater stuff. Not an overabundance of shredding which can get pretty tiresome at times. I have listened to the second cd at least twelve times and it is one of few cd's I can hear back to back and still find interesting parts that I didn't notice before. Proggish yes, but light years ahead of 95 % of the hard rock bands out there.

  • Proficiency at it's finest

with each member of dream theater being a virtuoso it's no surprise this album is a progressive masterpiece. the band is so tight, so aggressive, and play with the taste and ferocity only few can muster. the musicianship is perfect, with turn-on-a-dime precision, and leaves you in awe wondering how musicians actually get to be this good! each song is beautifully crafted and skillfully delivered and i recommend this disc to those that hunger for progressive metal at it's finest.
