Recorder and Editing tool
Great for uploading & recording your old VCR videos and then editing out commericials using the editing function. Then you can record the new edited version to a DVD with this machine or an external DVD burning machine. You can also record regular free TV but will need a digital tuner hooked up. Easy. You can also record cable but you will need to hook it up properly. I have a DMR-E80H, and I thought this unit would be pretty much the same.....but it's not. The set up function was too difficult to figure out, even with the manual. The only reason I purchased it was because it had a 120GB hard drive. Anyway, I sold the unit on Ebay a month later after exhausting every avenue to make this thing work. If you already have one of these units, you will have no problem. If you don't....beware!!I have a DMR-E80H, and I thought this unit would be pretty much the same.....but it's not. Only DVR/Hard Drive available - good quality recordings
Bought this for the convenience of simple timeshifting of programming without the waste or bother of tapes or DVDs, but with the ability to edit and transfer to DVD any program for permanent archive. Pros are easy operation programming, playback, dubbing, editing etc. plus Panasonic's very excellent recording quality. Cons: These DVRs are no longer manufactured, only available used, and require a converter box to operate. Would buy this again. Have one other old Panasonic DVR, so now have a backup. This is a great little DVD recorder
What i love: 1. It has a built in editing program that allows you to cut out the commercials for your tv programs. 2. When the tv show is how you like it, then you can burn it to a disk, erase the content on your hard drive, making room for your next project. 3. With 80 GB, it will take a lot of recording to fill up the hard drive. As long as you don't have it on the XP mode all the time, there will be room for a lot of tv episodes or a few football games in their entirety. Drawbacks: 1. The unit is a little complicated and I recommend reading the instruction manual. However, when you understand some of the functions, the rest will be easier to pick up. I don't need all the functions it offers so it becomes less complicated to use. 2. The front display is hard to read even ... What i love: 1. I have had the unit since July 2003 and in March 2007 am now having problems with it refusing to recognize blank DVD-R disks when i want to record shows from the Hard Drive to the disk. I have to let a Panasonic authorized repair shop take a look at it. In closing, this is the only DVD recorder i have ever owned and would like to keep it until it blows up. I'm hesitant to buy another brands' recorder, worried that I will have to relearn a whole new electronic system. Great features, great quality recording and dvd burning.
I love this Panasonic DMR-E80H. I can edit out what I don't like, split a 6 hour recording into as many parts as I want, This is a replacement for another DMR-E80H that had a bad DVD drive, that unit was used almost on a daily basis. I expect this unit will give me many good years of service. The only thing I can't do is add another hard drive.
