A great film with a terrific cast and stunning visuals. One thing to keep in mind. The original pressing of this blu ray had problems on certain players. The picture in picture 'enhanced viewing mode' supplement could not be turned off (at least on my player) so if you were just trying to watch the movie, tough luck. You were stuck watching this feature. Fox has since fixed this problem with current pressings of the film. So if you're planning on buying "Sunshine" make sure that it is a newer copy that you're getting.

"Sunshine" is just another "the Earth is going to be destroyed" movie, it offers nothing new. The special effects are "adequate" at best. The characters are practically lifeless. I kept hoping something exciting and/or unusual would happen to go with it's "adequate" special effects and when It finally did I thought "Please! You mean a weird ending is what I've been waiting for!" I wish I hadn't have bought it; now every time I look at it on my shelf I have buyer's remorse: :(

The sci-fi genre is what it's all about for me and unfortunately in recent years the genre has been lacking in the "good" department, far from the 1980's glory days at least. But in 2007 we got a tasty revival in the form of Sunshine and the future is far from bleak with upcomming movies like James Camerons anticipated Avatar, and there's others I can't think of right now. Sunshine is a visual masterpiece, The graphics are stunning, I was really impressed. Especially looking at I am legend's cool $150 million budget compared to $20 million on this movie and the visuals are so much better. The story is thrilling and your in for a ride if you see it. They threw in aspects from alien and 2001 such as the classic spaceship adventure element which i love. It has a pretty good cast many Danny Boyle actors like 28 days later Cillian Murphy, 28 weeks later Rose Byrne and such. I have been waiting a very long time for a movie like this. Overall, Sunshine is an exciting, heart pounding movie and i would go as far to call it "great" but don't get me wrong it's not the best. There's some small things you might not catch the first time around but nothing crucial. But if you want to watch a fun and exciting film, watch Sunshine.Read full review
Well, it's a dark story about a dark subject, literaly. I can get around all the logic jumps that the movie makes such as the sun cooling and human beings able to build a device that should restart the Sun along with artificial gravity being in place around the ship. That is what science fiction is all about. The ship is inspiring, very nicley done. The production matches the feel and soul of the script. Lots of beautiful sets and perfectly placed plot points. So why is it just a good rating? Three things: 1. A hot head Physist? Really? 2. If you are exposed to space you will not survive it for 1 second. Much less a minute. Difficult to get around. 3. The villan at the end of the film has third degree burns over 100% of his body and he is alive after 7 years? Ummm...No. I still bought the film because the production is very beautiful. Get it on sale.Read full review
These types of movies just don't come around every day. You usually have to wait a while before you find a sci-fi film that you just really click with. Directed by Danny Boyle (28 Days Later & Transpotting) and written by Alex Garland, Sunshine makes a groundbreaking smash on the sci-fi film community Winning the 2007 British Independent Film Award's Best Technical Achievement award (Mark Tildesley for Production Design. Sunshine's tag-line for the movie is: "IF THE SUN DIES, SO DO WE." Cillian Murphy who plays Capa in the film was also nominated as Best Actor for this film. Capa narrates these lines at the beginning in order to save us the time of a long drawn out explanation so the movie actually starts where it should have. "Our sun is dying. Mankind faces extinction. Seven years ago the Icarus project sent a mission to restart the sun but that mission was lost before it reached the star. Sixteen months ago, I, Robert Capa, and a crew of seven left earth frozen in a solar winter. Our payload a stellar bomb with a mass equivalent to Manhattan Island. Our purpose to create a star within a star. [long pause] Capa: Eight astronauts strapped to the back of a bomb. My bomb. Welcome to the Icarus Two." Director Boyle proves his uncanny ability and insight into the human psyche as he pairs off interactions with crew member characters flying a solar bomb directly into the sun. I give this a 5/5 because it usually gets better the second or third time you see it since it seems very fast paced and thrilling.
