About this product

Product Information

Although thousands of them already line up each August to catch the latest edition of gaming's most recognized annual title, it's safe to say that football fans and sports gamers will have an even harder time passing on the "06" version of Madden NFL. This edition of the long-running series introduces a few changes and additions, designed to make the challenges of executing on offense feel more realistic than ever before.<br><br>The most obvious changes to this year's edition come in the passing game, which introduces gameplay features based on quarterback-specific attributes. Most notable is the new "Vision Cone," which simulates the QB's field of view with a highlighted cone that fans out in the direction of the current intended receiver.<br><br>The feature is designed to force the player on offense to commit earlier in the play, and to telegraph his passes much more realistically than in earlier versions of Madden, making those improbably easy "no-look" completions a thing of the past. The range of the vision cone is based on multiple factors, including the quarterback's "talent" attribute rating and the difficulty settings at which the game is being played.<br><br>Madden NFL 06 also brings a new "Precision Passing" system to the series, which allows quarterbacks some direct control over the accuracy of their passes. By bumping the left analog stick or D-pad in the desired direction as the ball is passed, QBs can aim high, low, in front, or behind their receivers, allowing them to lead the catcher away from coverage or make use of height advantages.<br><br>Other features, more familiar to gaming's most popular sports series, are also present in Madden 06, along with new replay camera angles, animations, and other presentational upgrades. There's also an offensive answer to last year's defensive "hit stick" mechanic, which allows ball carriers to try to plow through oncoming hits and blocks with a flick of commitment on the analog stick.<br><br>As usual, this edition of Madden is designed to offer a highly customizable game of football, and players who prefer the more forgiving play design of earlier editions can simply turn off the Vision Cone -- or nearly any other element that conflicts with their personal style of play. The game also includes all the teams, stadiums, and players of the real-life NFL (thanks to an exclusive license that takes effect for the first time this year).

  • Looking For Football? This Game Is Your Only Choice.

Madden NFL has an exclusive liscense to the NFL players, trademarks, and other properties. This means that you won't find any other authentic game out there with up to date players, teams, or coaches. So basically it's Madden or bust. Fortunately this game is pretty good and if you like football you won't be disappointed. This game offers a rousing and realistic game of football with plenty of gaming modes. You can put together a tournament featuring your favorite teams, you can play an entire season including training camp, or you can just play an exhibition game. A nice feature for me was the football 101 sessions with Madden coaching me while I practiced different plays with my favorite teams. This game has plenty to offer and should appeal to most any football fan of any skill level. I ...

  • Madden takes 2 steps forward 3 steps back

I began playing madden in 2005 and saw obvious flaws in the game (computer becomes Peyton Manning no matter what if they're trailing in the 4th quarter, little corners can lay the wood on huge Running Backs all the time, etc.) so I was looking forward to 06 immensely, even got on the pre-order list to get it ASAP. Well I found the game the exact opposite of the previous year. Passing, once the vogue in 05, was now super difficult, but at least linebackers bite on the 2nd and short play-action every once in a while, right? The Truck stick allows running backs to beat up the secondary when they get there, but now speed ratings are all tapered down to such an extent to where no burners have a big edge like dante hall, westbrook, vick, etc. Defense is far stingier, but now the offense ...

  • Madden NFL 2006 (GameCube)

You like football? You like video games? Then you will love Madden NFL. But you can love it just as much on playstation or regular XBOX. Its really not that much different a game from system to system. So, I say YES to the game and NO to the xbox 360. Don’t buy the 360 just to play Madden, if you just want to play Madden, play it on playstation or regular XBOX. Regardless of what game system you play Madden on, it’s the best game available to play. If you like football, and you like video games, this is the best way to go. Nothing beats Madden. I play it on playstation all the time and love it online or against the computer.

  • Still the best!

Was there ever a Madden game that wasn't great? I spent hours playing this one. If you like football then this is the game for you. The new "truck stick" feature is great. Mini camp games are fun too. A must buy!

  • Madden NFL 2006

I bought Madden NFL 2006 for my son (age 8)who loves football. He loved it from the beginning. He really likes the fact that you can play a players whole career and you can see where the quarterback is going to throw the ball. He likes 2006 much better than the Madden 2005 game he was playing. I asked him if there was anything he would change about the game and he said "not a thing".
