    BEST OF DVD RECORDERS

I have been a fan of Toshiba DVD recorders for a long time and over the past 25 years I have owned three units of the same series. It has been my experience that each unit lasts approximately 10 years of heavy use. Since they are not manufactured any longer, I had to buy them used among the many that are offered online. If you are into recording on DVD like me, I recommend this Toshiba line of DVD recorders but advise you to be very careful when buying a use one. Do an extensive research and buy from a reputable dealer that has tested the unit and found it in good working order. Avoid private individuals.

  • Great recorder for the price.

I have used this item before, at my old job. Over there, we needed to make about 4 DVDs a day from a live recording, thru a Composite connection. It worked flawless. Very easy to use. I never had to open the manual. Just record, stop, finalize - and the disc is ready. Now I bought one for myself, in order to make DVD outputs from Final Cut Pro to give to my clients for review. I have tried other recorders prior to choosing this model, and I still think this was the best choice for me. You can't beat the price, and it does everything any other recorder does. Two complaints I have about it: 1. It does take a bit too long sometimes to finalize a disk, longer than different recorders would take (the Panasonic EZ28 for example). But that, compared to being at least 3 times cheaper, is not ...

  • A solid DVD recorder at a very reasonable price

I do a lot of backups of my DVD movies, primarily for my 4-year old daughter who likes to handle them improperly. I previously bought a Toshiba HD-A2 High Def. DVD player, but it was very slow in powering-up and often froze or skipped during playback of DVD's and audio CD's (especially if compressed during the backup). And a firmware update from Toshiba did not solve the problem. So with HD-DVD apparently not invited to the ball (you go, Blu-Ray!), I decided to look for a DVD-recorder to replace the HD player. I took a chance and stayed with Toshiba, but got the recorder for about 2/3 what I paid for the HD player. It still upconverts to 1080, powers-up a lot faster, and seems to have no problem playing about any kind of DVD disc. I'm loving it! The one drawback is the limited number of ...

  • Good recorder, especially for the price

The recorder is very good quality, but the menu's aren't intuitive. It has the same limitations that all DVD-R's have, so no reason to gripe. It isn't very compatible with Dish (you can't do automatic recordings since the dish doesn't have a remote code for it) but that's a weakness of Dish. If you don't close the DVD's properly you can't play them on other DVD players. You'll need to spend at least a couple hours going over the directions if you want it to do what you wish. Operator error can happen easily with this machine. You can't select the video frame for the icon you want for a recording. You can do this with most players. This may be operator error on my part, but I haven't figured out how to yet. You get HDMI output which is nice for your large screen TV. If you don't have a ...

  • So far so good

I use this weekly to make DVDs of church services. So far it has worked quite well. Set-up is super easy and the quality of the DVDs is much better than the ones I was making on a computer. It has saved me a ton of time as the DVDs are recorded real time. It takes about 5 minutes for the disk to finalize once the service is over. Compared to the hour plus to transfer the video from the camcorder to the computer and another hour plus to format and burn a DVD, this has been great. I should have gotten one a long time ago. Bill.
