Previously, I had this exact camera for over 10 years. They're excellent for photos and videos. Image quality is great.

I bought this camera as a back-up for an identical one that I've had since 2008. I've been extremely satisfied with the original and only purchased this one after I fell while on a trail this summer with the camera in my pocket. Of course, the ground and I met at precisely the point where the camera was resting. After making sure I was in one piece I took out the camera(apprehensively) and turned it on. It still functioned perfectly but had a damaged area on the screen. I was afraid that this would get progressively worse, so began shopping for a replacement. The good news is that the original camera continues to perform like a champ AND the replacement is doing the same--without the screen blemish of its older sibling. There is really nothing for me to dislike about this Canon. It is easy to handle, its functions are pretty intuitive, and goodness knows, it's sturdy. I've owned other digital cameras, but this is by far my favorite and most reliable. As an added plus, the battery lasts a long time, whether for a long day of shooting or while sitting idle for weeks between uses. I'm very happy that I got the replacement rather than buying a newer, different camera.Read full review
This camera came in on time and worked perfectly. I have better cameras than this one, but none as easy to use and compact.

This is my third Canon Powershot sd870. This first one went overboard on a cruise and the second one got left behind in a hotel room. I have tried many other point and shoot cameras of all types and sizes but this is by far the best camera I have ever used. - Picture quality is excellent. - The three inch screen makes reviewing your shots so much better.. its amazing what half an inch can do. - And it has all the features you could want. I would buy a used sd870 over any other newer model.
I have owned several of these cameras, and have used other similar ones from Canon (sd-850, sd-1100, etc.), as well as similar models from Nikon, Ricoh and Pentax. Of everything I've owned, I like this model (sd-870) the best. I particularly like the wide angle end of the zoom range going out to a 28 mm (35mm equivalent), the auto exposure logic is incredibly good, and I enjoy using the time-lapse capability.
