Purging my boxes of floppies is a task when you no longer have a computer that can read them! I purchased this device and found it painfully slow, noisy and sometimes unresponsive needed a reboot here and there to get the device to read the disk. The first one I had to return as it "rattled" The return was much less painful than this process of saving ancient photos off floppies is. This does work but not sure how long it will last or if I'll give up because of how much time it takes to read a mere 1.44 mg of info. This visit to the dark Ages makes me happy to have my iPhone and the cloud storage that is so seamless. Dealer gets a 6 star for fast resolve of the first faulty device. I tried this on my PC Win 10, my friends with Win 7 and then on a PC with XP and nothing worked. Maybe the items was defective. When I went to my local computer shop to try to fix my old computer with 3.5 floppy drive he mentioned an external drive he had, MITSUMI USB PORTABLE drive he had in stock. I bought it and when I plugged it in it worked perfectly with Win 10. I am sure others have had better luck but for my money this other device is better.

I was cleaning out my computer room and realized that I had lots of 3.5" floppy discs from a few years ago. Several of them had pictures which I could not view on my computer. I was just about ready to throw them all away, but decided to check and see if they were still being used. To my surprise, there were lots of them for sale on eBay. As I kept looking, I found this external floppy disc reader and decided to try it, since it was inexpensive. I was unable to use it on my Windows 10 computer, but still had my Windows 7, tho not on the internet. Well, it works perfectly and I am able to view all my old pictures, thanks to this little reader!!!!!!!

Our old floppy reader got up and walked away... So, since we have some fundamental stuff on floppies (I know, I know -- we should move it) we scrolled through the ones available. This, while not the cheapest, seemed to look the sturdiest. It is quite hefty and reads Office 7 and 10. Its drawback is that it is s...l....o...w to bring up designated item. But it does, and it works and it 's not flimsy so it does the job. Now hopefully it won't abscond and join its wayward cousin.

I tried an off-brand FDD drive a couple of years ago, but it was defective. I finally got a well made Sabrent FDD and was able to recapture numerous old files and images I have had in storage from the 1990's. This has worked very well as the Sabrent is "plug and play" and only requires a USB jack to plug into to. I am very pleased with the result and this unit and was surprised to see that my JPG images had not degraded at all - they looked like new. An excellent product and a great value.
