As always, I think the EA Sports games are great, but it always seems that each one has its unique features that makes them great, but by the same token, they also have their unique features that make you say......wow, if only the feature from (this game) were included in this one, that would just take it to the next level. The one thing I could think of would almost be the melding of the NFL franchise with the NCAA one - in the context of in the NCAA franchise you can literally watch your players fatigue throughout the game, see the effect the momentum is having, good or bad so you know, as a coach what's going on. You have no clue in the NFL version. Another thing in the NFL version, maybe minor, but you can think of many more things this might apply to is weather. Until you're in the game, you don't know weather conditions, so, does it matter? Obviously in a real game it does. EA Sports says "if it's in the game....", but is it, since they don't bother to include that since it doesn't seem to matter. Teams like Miami wear their white uniforms forcing the visitors to wear dark uniforms so, by the 4th quarter, the suns heat will wear them down further, so, is that in the game? I don't mean to make this a negative review, the game is fun to play and I don't have a problem with any of it, I just bring up those things as questions and ponderings of possible improvements for the next one, but if I had it to do over again, I would still purchase the game.Read full review
In the Madden series, unlike most people, I preferred o play the 'Superstar' Mode. I really liked being able to progress a player my way. The last version I bought was '06. In the '09 rendition, you have to understand how to get your superstar to the point he is a starter. Making 'Superstar' Mode a little more complicated to understand. IN '09, I found that the 'Franchize' Mode lets me control the team as a whole. Everything from the players up to the owners. That is a lot to control in my opinion, unless you are a hardcore football fanatic. I am not, but I do like it that way. I would suspect most would enjoy 'Play Now' mode or a mode a little less involved. I have got to say that compared to '06, there is a lot more options during the game. More control of what happens. If you get entailed into the game, it makes for a wonderful time. Just don't be to overwhelmed at the button combos. Overall, I would have to say I forsee me getting hours of enjoyment out of this game.Read full review
I bought Madden 09 when I heard that it was available on the PS2 because I had owned Madden 07 and rather enjoyed it. I was expecting a to have changed in this version of the game but got pretty much the same version of the game that 07 was. Granted there were a couple new frills and thrills that have been added on to give the user hours of fun like the new skills, new players, and a better franchise mode. The game handles well, loading times have been lessened and the controls are pretty much the same. If you like Madden football or are new to the genre this is a good buy.
In light of recent games, this is one of the better Maddens out there. The gameplay is outstanding, Franchise Mode is as addictive as can be and one of the most immersive experiences you'll see in an NFL game. Soundtrack is pretty good, which was standard for EA at this time. To any and all who find themselves plain disgusted by the current state of Madden, the mid 00s of Madden are your answer. 09 follows the critically acclaimed 08 with Player Weapons that don't make folks over powered in a bad way. For the full Franchise experience, play NCAA 09 and export the draft classes off of Dynasty. You end up with a far more balanced draft where you can find pretty good players in the middle to later rounds than if you go with the Madden drafts which are usually top heavy to my recollection. Overall, Madden 09 is a great game. Get it with NCAA 09. The Franchise/Dynasty Modes were outstanding. Read full review
