Item is small, very small.
While this loup is small, it is very usefull. If I wanted to examine a 0.25ct ruby then this loup would work. A 1 ct ruby and I could use this loup, maybe on up to 3 or maybe 4 ct. But if I wanted to examine something that was 10ct, then this loup would be too small to see the whole thing, however I could still see the mineral using this loup. It would be useful for examining parts of rough when choosing something for cutting in lapidary, as you would be able to see any dye that was applied to the mineral. It does have a strong enough magnification to see if a gem is real with some common quick tests. worked perfect for me
I first purchased the 40x one in hopes of viewing a diamond phono stylus which is suppose to have a .0008" radius tip. To put in perspective that is about a third thickness of blond female human hair. Not being quite powerful enough I seen the 60x on the same site a few weeks later and bought it. Well I got a very good look at the stylus tip and can now see the uniform roundness of the ball tip. Both the 60x and 40x units are about 4.65 with free shipping. The 60x power is like a mini microscope and the 40x is a loupe.
