Great series , superb actors , quite engaging to the end . My only wish was that they would have done a cross over episode or two with Sharpe's series especially since both were great series and actor's in both were well picked for their roles! An opportunity truly missed and I'm not alone I know in the wish!

This TV series brings to exciting life the career and adventures of C. S. Forester's heroic character Horatio Hornblower. The cast was well chosen, the acting very good all around. The ships and the settings are convincing, and the action well-paced. I saw this series on A&E when it was new, and it holds up very well. Worth watching over and over, not only for the action, but the very well defined and engaging characters.This TV series brings to exciting life the career and adventures of C. S. A story, for generations to come!
The Hornblower series is one of my all-time favorites! The original series had just 6 episodes; all Awesome! This 8-disk set brings the series bring the story to a reasonable conclusion. This is a MUST SEE for any young man. I gave a set to my nephew, who graduated from the Naval Academy; 5th in his class. This is, also, required viewing for any new members of my pipe band. I believe, it teaches the meaning of honor. Something that is rarely taught these days. The characters are brilliant and convincing. After watching this version, I cannot imagine any other actors attempting this story. I have rented this set, a couple times a year, for the past several years. Now I own it. Best Regards, David S. Addictively full of intrigue and adventure
Horatio Hornblower is a great story about British sailors and the challenges they face at sea. Each episode features a particular war-time challenge as well as personal challenge that the main character and his fellow shipmen must overcome. It is sometimes difficult to watch the character-building suffering they face, but there is always a satisfying ending.
